Alderley Edge Pre-school

We would like to welcome all of our new children who have started with us this term! Everyone has settled in really well and we are now starting back with our regular sessions including Forest School Tuesday AM and Little Superstars Thurs PM. Activities change to different days throughout the year so don’t worry if your child is missing something this term as they will get to take part later in the year.

Spring 2017

Minutes of Alderley Edge Pre School AGM held on Tuesday 14th February 2017

Present at meeting

Sam Higgins, Emma (Chair) Catherine Challinor (Treasurer), Kate Hobbs (Secretary), Rona McGlone

1. Chairpersons report

Nicola McGuire and Nicola Finch have stood down from the committee. Abby Griffiths will join the committee as a new member this year. Miss Singh and Miss Rowley have been great additions to the staffing team. There were no other significant changes.

2. Treasurer report

Accounts were presented, reviewed and accepted and will now be submitted to the Charities Commission.

3. Managers report

Sam Higgins gave an overview of the year. The main points included that the numbers of children attending the preschool are still very healthy as are the numbers on the waiting list. The possibility of using a gallery system on Tapestry, in addition to notifications of significant learning moments, was discussed. The gallery could show highlights of the week/day and be more of an informal method of showing parents what their children have done at preschool.

4. Safeguarding

The safeguarding policy has been constantly reviewed and updated as necessary. The committee were made aware of their responsibilities as regards safeguarding.

5. Looking forward

The 30 hours funding from September 2017 will have implications and need to be monitored as it will result in a drop in the preschools income. Additionally as the bank has cut interest rates our savings now accrue very little interest. Everyone present discussed options which include charging a a higher rate for lunch times.

Staff will continue to receive training to support their continued professional development. Different training courses were discussed.

It was agreed the admissions policy will be changed to prioritise the children of our staff. Term dates were presented and agreed for next year. The urgent need for more committee members will be addressed.

New Safeguarding Policy, the committee and staff have agreed the new Cheshire East model safeguarding policy for the setting and a full copy is in the parents file in the playroom as well as on the website

The new policy includes reference to the new Prevent duty and the use of cameras/ phones/ internet in the setting. We would remind all parents that personal mobiles must not be used anywhere inside the school and taking pictures of staff, the children and the setting are strictly prohibited without written prior approval.

The Preschool Committee is made up of parents from the setting who volunteer to work together with the manager on all aspects of the preschool. They meet for coffee, (or a drink!)  to catch up about once a term and discuss future ideas on activities and developments that would benefit our families, such as organising fundraising for the canopy. We are always keen to include as many parents in our committee so please do get involved. You can speak to Sam Higgins, Rona McGlone, Kate Hobbs or Emma Green if you would like to know more.

Tapestry is the new online learning journey the preschool is using to record and share children’s progress. Whilst we are still in the early days of using it we shall soon be adding parents email addresses in order to send you updates of what your child has been doing whilst with us. Please let us know if your email has changed since registering your child. If you are unable to access the internet then let your key person know and we can continue to record progress as we are.

Lending library scheme has restarted. Children are encouraged to choose a book to share at home for the week. We will be having library days on Thursdays and Fridays to remind children to change their books. For children not in on these days your key person will help on an alternate day instead. Repetition of stories really enhances children’s listening and attention skills so don’t worry if your child wants to keep a book for longer or chooses the same one several times. We shall also be starting a library of games and activities to use at home too. Your key person may recommend one or if you are looking for ideas to help with an area of learning and development at home just ask.

Car parking in the school grounds is for staff and those with disabled/blue badges only. When entering or leaving school grounds please use the footpath and pedestrian gate as deliveries take place throughout the day. We ask all parents/ carers to park with consideration for our neighbours when parking on the street. Thank you.
